The Punjabi Tumbi is a traditional stringed musical instrument from the Punjab region of India. It is primarily associated with Punjabi folk music and is known for its unique sound and rhythmic accompaniment.The Tumbi is a small, single-stringed instrument that resembles a plucked lute. It consists of a long wooden neck with a resonating chamber on one end & a tuning peg on the other hand. The main playing string is usually made of steel. Ajay Rikhi Ram has recently designed a new fretted  tumbi  which has 21 frets, which are tuned chromatically. It also has an in built pick-up for live performances & studio projects. A musician can improvise his music by playing from different keys.
